privilege, to continue to do so, even with the

assistance of a subsidy from Government. It has

therefore been necessary to make provision for the work to be done departmentally.

Head 27, Defence.

Provision is made under Item 25 for 2

armoured cars, bringing the number up to 6, which

is considered to be the minimum necessary.

It is clear that the amounts provided under

the Special Expenditure Sub-Heads throughout the

Estimates have been reduced to a minimum.

Head 34, Public Works Extraordinary

undertaken and expenditure under several Sub-Heads

has been considerably reduced.

Sub-Head 3. The insertion of the Item of

$80,000 for continuing the work on the Market at

Wanchai has been noted above.

Sub-Head 8, Trade School. The preparation of working plans and of the proposal to carry out

preliminary work on the site of the new Trade School

was approved in 4 on 33813/34. The Building

given in the Estimates as the total cost of the work, though $60,000 only is provided for 1935;

no doubt the total estimate will be reduced if and

when that carse proves to be possible.

Sub-Heads 9-15, General Works.
